Teachers View - For

I agree that it is more a question of when rather than whether we should introduce mobile technology. As a Teacher I am keen to remain on top of my game and not be left behind. If we don't pilot this other institutions will and and we will increasing become an outdated institution. I agree that the boundaries are blurring and consider that if learning takes place without the students even realising it is happening then this can be no bad thing.

I aso accept that students have other choices such as relaxing, socialising and romancing but why limit their choices? Students are aware that homework is part of school life if they choose to sit with a book and a pen rather than a laptop and / or a phone then that is their choice but what about those who would choose to sit in a park with their friends whilst completing their homework- socialising and learning at the same time? Surely we as a group of professionals would be able to adapt existing resources to increase the choices, potentially reaching those learners who traditionally do not complete homework.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that all existing teaching resources are wiped out and replaced by mobile technology but that exisiting practices are enhanced with mobile access. In addition the Authorities have offered to fund / sponsor the project so cost is not a factor in the first stages so what are we waiting for?
